Something I read recently that I found to be very good is an article in The Journal for Christian Reconstruction - Volume 6 - Number 2 titled "Puritanism and Music." It goes through the history of the Puritans' view and practice of, and contribution to, music and art in general (including dance), and worship music specifically.
